WHAT IS IT?

Big Sunday is ordinary, everyday people combining together to contribute back to those in our community who are struggling to survive, are marginalised through isolation, poverty, disability or sickness. Big Sunday acts to provide hope to hopeless situations through practical service.

Bringing ordinary, everyday people together to contribute to our Community.

On Big Sunday Weekend there are opportunities for every passion, talent, skill and age. Projects are scheduled throughout the weekend, and can last anywhere from one hour to a full day. These projects may range from handyman jobs at local not-for-profits, yard clean ups, visiting the elderly in nursing homes, assisting local animal shelters to providing social inclusion opportunities for various people groups. Wherever there is a need there is an opportunity.

For many people, Big Sunday Weekend is just the beginning of an involvement that continues throughout the year. We expect many of our volunteers will build lasting relationships with not-for-profit groups and the local community.

HISTORY

Big Sunday Adelaide is being done in partnership with Big Sunday a nonprofit organisation based in Los Angeles, California. Big Sunday was founded in 1999 as a single day of service. Today Big sunday engages more than 50,000 people of all ages and backgrounds annually, in more than 1500 different helping events throughout the year. Big Sunday projects have been done in more than 125 communities throughout California, as well as seven other states. Adelaide is the first city that has licensed Big Sunday's name and model - and our friends in L.A. have asked us to tell everyone that they are thrilled and flattered to have Adelaide on board.

Big Sunday's mission is to build community through community service. We believe that everyone has some way that they can help somebody else.
